Fly in Formation - Tariiiq Interview

Tariiiq was almost the first in-person Fly in Formation interview, but I decided last minute that hauling my computer up to North Country Fair and cooking it in a vehicle all weekend wasn’t the worth the risk. We rescheduled for the week after on Zoom.

This guy stays releasing music, and I play a lot of it on #ATSIC mixes. One of my favourites in Edmonton right now, he stays loyal to his lyrical roots and brings a range of subject matter that varies more than a lot of artists. It’s been dope watching the growth, and I look forward to the album he’s been cooking up, “Spitemology”; which is an exclusive bit of news that you heard here on Fly in Formation first. People who streamed live on Twitch even saw me accidentally show the track list. While we wait on that project, definitely check out his Spotify, but go beyond that and hit his website as well. Buy a shirt or something if you want to support.

We talked about performing with a band, the uniqueness of performing at festivals to crowds that aren’t as accustomed to raw boom bap & bars, taking hallucinogens before shows, the Edmonton rap scene, what it takes to make it in the current era, motivations, and a bunch more. I kept him on the line for some overtime while he cruised to his next destination. Props to Tariiiq for being a real one and coming through to chop it up.

If you enjoy these interviews, make sure to hit follow or subscribe over on Twitch, where I do these interviews on Tuesdays.

Upcoming Fly in Formation interviews:

Aug 1 - Len Bowen

Aug 8 - Thomas Quinlan of Handsolo Records

Aug 15 - Ol’ Gorilla Bones / The Dirty Sample

Aug 22 - Epic (from Saskatoon Folk Rap Records)

Thanks for checking in. Tell a friend who likes Hip Hop to check out After the Smoke is Clear on Mixcloud. I play independent artists like Tariiiq every week, and I never play the same track twice. The homie DJ Baggylean just came on board to handle the cuts and blends, so we’ve leveled up midway through the 4th season. Don’t sleep.

Stay Up.
