Fly In Formation 148 - Touch
On episode 148 I caught up with Touch182. We talked about his new project The Scientific Method, which is a master class in being on point. Touch brought his signature slightly late slow flow back to a more earthly plane on this one, skipping lofty metaphors and album length narrative arcs to stick a bit closer to his battle rap roots. He told me about making sure that the songs were the most modern representation of his current master level of craftsmanship in not only emceeing, but production, engineering (mix and mastering), and visual elements as well. We spoke about the step back from the scene in the past years to work on perfecting skills and focusing on his own artistic vision, and the effort it took to reintroduce himself to a scene he helped build - which is of course a constantly revolving door of not only artists but also show promoters and venues. We talked about how to gatekeep your own yard in a world with no fences; he gave me the chemical equations to create good Hip Hop and the chemical breakdown of a true emcee; talked about being guarded and lacking trust for people lacking credentials; how to pronounce BMW - and a bunch of other really important stuff.
