ATSIC s4e12 - U Should Like It

Prediction and instruction both - you should like this one! Another 57 minutes of flames, showcasing the best new singles by indie rappers from clear across the map. We've got a taste of what's to come with Ol' Gorilla Bones & The Dirty Sample's upcoming album "Revenge Vol 2." Check out the lead single, "Gerry Cheevers," a wicked homage to a legendary old-school hockey goalie. The album is set to drop on July 14 via Hand Solo, and man, it feels like it's still a long way off. Can't wait!

We also hear a track from Fortunato & Sean One's forthcoming album, "Blue Collar 2," with their second single, "Stop This." It knocks and is brimming with solid advice for our fellow emcees. I'm actually hoping to chat with Fortunato soon on Fly in Formation (maybe May 16?) over on Twitch to get the inside scoop on his second album with the Fredericton producer. I've heard rumors that there are no features this time around, and the content has taken a more "mature" turn. BC2 is slated for release on May 12, and I've got the full album in my hands already (I’ve got the files anyways). Maybe I'll drop another episode this week on Thursday and give an early taste with an album cut. Stay tuned.

And hey, I'm also stoked to be able to debut Saskatoon Folk Rap Records representative Epic's track, "Lawson." He’s been a mainstay on the prairie rap scene for a long time. This new gem is due for release in June (exact date still under wraps), and it features a country-twanged instrumental produced by maki, with cuts by DJ K Rec. I always love debuting fresh material, especially when it hits close to home. Driving cars through fields—relatable as hell when you grow up in the middle of nowhere.

But wait, there's more! This mix is packed with other bangers too, including the first appearance of viral upstarts Coast Contra on #ATSIC, teaming up with Marco Polo and Masta Ace. I just found out last week that the twins in Coast Contra are children of West coast lyrical legend Ras Kass. Gotta give that Canadian content love since Marco hails from Montreal. Plus, keep an ear out for YNG Bear, an impressive artist out of Edmonton. His track "O.D." on this week's mix is insanely catchy and straight-up dope. I've featured him on a few other mixes lately, so I'm excited to see what else he's got in store. That’s not all, I also feature 3 members of BKRS CLB; Raz Fresco, The 6th Letter, and Gritfall back to back to back. You won’t find the Gritfall track on streaming platforms yet either. Deez Waxx isn’t sending to Spotify either, but I found his newest drop as well. Ear to the digital pavement over here.

All in all, I'm confident most Hip Hop lovers will vibe with this mix. If you're feeling it, show some love by hitting that like button on the social media posts—whether it's Twitter, IG, or even FB. It goes a long way in spreading the word and getting the show in front of more people on their timelines. Best part? It doesn't cost a thing to show that support. And don't underestimate the power of word of mouth either, friends. Let your Hip Hop-loving pals know about the goodness served up here. I often hear folks saying they struggle to find time for new music, which is precisely why I create these mixes. Those people deserve to hear dope new music, and these artists deserve our support. Like their posts, and buy the music you dig from deserving artists. Trust me, the millionaires are already swimming in cash, support local.

If you want to hang out while I make these episodes, come by on Twitch, especially on Tuesdays, when I normally make #ATSIC or do interviews with artists for the #FlyInFormation series.

Check out my Tik Tok too, I’ve been making an effort to post more clips from interviews over there.

If you want emails when I make new posts, sign up for the newsletter dealy below. If all the socials dissolve, you’ll still get a reminder when I drop another hour of goodness.

Thanks for coming by.

Stay Up.
